LOVE RIPON

Love Ripon volunteers cleaned the entrance to Ripon off of Highway 99 last year.

Love Ripon is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 23.
Volunteers are being sought for nearly a dozen projects around town, from 9 a.m. to noon.
“By serving your community, you’re making it a better place to live,” said Love Ripon Chairman Joseph Laswell.
This is the fifth year of Love Ripon, which will kick off with an 8 o’clock rally at the Community Center, 334 Fourth St.
The local Starbucks will be providing free coffee during that time.
From there, volunteers will be assigned to places around town, including:
Canal Street beautification project
Park View Elementary School beautification project
Recycle Center clean up
Residential Yard improvement project
Ripon city park bark spreading
Ripon Community Garden
Ripon High campus clean up
Second Street overpass clean up
Shell Station curbside beautification
Ripona Elementary School beautification
In the past, area churches along with the many service organizations, businesses and schools have helped out with Love Ripon.
“(Love Ripon) has a vision to not only serve our community on our one day a year but to become a more ongoing community service organization,” Laswell said. “We want to meet the needs of our people and our community.
“We have a lot of work still to do to accomplish this vision but we are consistently working toward this at our monthly (Love Ripon) board meetings held at City Hall.”
Love Ripon came about from Love Modesto, which began in 2007 at about the time when Modesto was listed on “worst cities in America.”
More than 1,200 people showed up during that first year to support the cause.
From that, the organization has branched into more than 50 cities, with over 70,500 volunteers getting involved to make better their community for that one day in April.
