New Years’ Eve celebrations netted five DUI arrests in addition to major injury accident in Manteca at 2 a.m. on the first day of 2015, according to Manteca Police Sgt. Rob Armosino.
The collision occurred at the intersection of South Airport Way and Woodward Avenue when two vehicles – a Chevy Lumina and a Dodge Ram pickup truck – collided with the 24-year-old driver of the car being trapped in his overturned vehicle. Firefighters had to cut the motorist out of his car with the Jaws of Life. The northbound pickup T-boned the westbound car, police said. The intersection is controlled in both directions by stop signs.
The driver of the northbound truck, Edgar Ramirez Carrillo, 24, of Manteca, reportedly crawled out the window of his vehicle shortly after the crash and refused medical treatment. His vehicle also overturned and ended up a distance away from the car after apparently skidding on its roof.
Officers reported that he was arrested and charged with felony DUI.
The injured motorist was transported to a Modesto trauma center. Police said the other DUIs resulted mainly from single car crashes.
