A 31-year-old motorist was killed at 1 a.m. Friday when his southbound ‘90s Ford pickup and camper slammed into a tree in the 700 block of North Union Road just north of West Alameda Street and the Union Pacific Railroad crossing.
It was unknown if the driver was from Manteca, however the vehicle’s registration gave a Manteca address.  No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The red and white vehicle was demolished by the impact. The driver died at the scene. Firefighters had to extricate him with the Jaws of Life.
It could not immediately be determined whether excess speed, alcohol or drugs had contributed to the accident, officers said.
