Man impersonating Manteca Police officer

A man driving a silver BMW sedan and wearing all black identified himself as a Manteca Police officer as he approached newspaper delivery carriers at about 3:15 a.m. Monday tapping on the driver’s window asking what the couple was doing near a restaurant  in the 600 block of East Yosemite Avenue.

He shouted, “MPD” twice to them.  After talking to the suspect through their slightly rolled down window, he asked for a copy of the newspaper they were delivering.  They said no.

Described as being either in his late teens or early 20s, he was seen again near the 7-Eleven at the corner of Powers Avenue and Yosemite Avenue, two blocks to the east. He was also reportedly wearing black riding gloves and a black baseball cap.

A Manteca Police Department spokesman said the MPD had no records of an officer matching that description on the street at that time of the morning.
