Manteca CAPS dinner theatre set for March 27

“Sleepless in California” is the name of this year’s production for the mystery dinner theatre benefit for the Manteca CAPS organization that serves mentally challenged adults.

The dinner is set for Saturday, March 27, at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane.

Tickets are $30 apiece. No-host cocktails start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. that includes a live performance.

There are also door prizes and a raffle.

It is a slumber party theme this year. Guests are encouraged to dress appropriately.

Manteca Morning
Rotary crab feed
set for Feb. 27

The Manteca Morning Rotary’s annual Harry Van Rys Crab Feed takes place Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane.

The no host bar opens at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner complete with wine on the table at 6:30 p.m. Music and dancing follows at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $35 each.

More than $35,000 in scholarships have been awarded to local high school students since 2001.

Manteca honors
artists during
Feb. 28 reception

The Manteca Mayor’s Committee on the Arts will honor local artists at their annual awards event on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Manteca Senior Center, 295

The following people have been nominated for various awards:
• Artist of the year: Dan Voller and Rick Hammarstrom
• Special recognition award: Jeannette Farley
• Arts recognition award: Jean Ramey and Nancy Myatt
• Student art recognition awards: Eric Christensen, Kristen Kunkle, Dristal Valencia and Brandon Valite
• Gang prevention poster contest awards.

The public is encouraged to attend the Mayor’s Committee on the Arts Award Ceremony. Refreshments will be served to those who are viewing the various tables prepared by the local artists groups.

There will be a special “Green Ware” table showing how art can be produced from items that have been thrown away. See the wonderful art that Jan Bradley has created from an empty Coca Cola can and other discarded items.

dinner, dance set

The Manteca High Athletic Boosters annual rib dinner dance takes place on Saturday, March 13, at the MRPS Hall, 133 N. Grant St.

You must be 21 years old to attend.

Tickets are $30. They are available at the Manteca High main office.

Ripon concert
March 12 helps
Relay for Lifer

Ripon Christian School students are holding a benefit concert for this year’s Ripon Relay For Life on Friday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the school.

The headlining band is called “I Am Empire”. This show will be their first stop on a national tour promoting their current hit single called “The Elevator.” Here is a link to their website if you would like some more information about the band: http://www.myspace.com/iamempire

Advance ticket donations are $7 a tickets with all of the proceeds going directly to Ripon Relay for Life. Tickets at the door will be $10. As an extra bonus, anyone who is on a 2010 Relay for Life team is eligible for one free ticket to the concert, due to the fact that they are already contributing to the cause.
