Manteca’s population has grown by 37 percent in a 10-year period from 1999 to 2008 going from 48,027 to 66,451 residents.
Police and fire calls have gone up as well.

Fire calls went from 3,227 in 1999 to 4,589 in 2008. Police calls climbed from 28,219 in 1999 to 37,122 in 2008.

The stats are included in the annual financial snapshot of the city – a comprehensive audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008 – that has just been released by the Department of Finance.

Other statistical tidbits and the comparison of 1999 to 2008 are as follows:

•The city’s square miles have gone from 15.6 to 17.52 through annexations.

•The roll of registered voters has increased from 17,130 to 24,954.

•Taxable sales have jumped from $385.5 million to $747.7 million.

•Annual building permits issued have risen from 1,486 to 1,816.

•Municipal employees have jumped from 281 to 415.

•The ranks of sworn fire personnel has gone from 30 to 42.

•The number of police officers has increased from 55 to 80.

•The number of police volunteers has jumped from 25 to 74.

•Police personnel support staff has gone from 24 to 33.

•Park sites have increased from 34 to 47.

•Park acreage has grown from 218 to 326.

•The number of park and golf course trees has increased from 5,408 to 7,596.

•The number of street trees has increased from 4,279 to 8,801.

•The miles of city streets have jumped from 140 to 193.

•The number of street lights has gone from 2,631 to 4,800.

•The amount of water connections has jumped from 12,678 to 22,172.

•The miles of water mains have increased from 140 to 254.

•The average daily consumption of water has jumped from 8.9 million gallons per day to 13.82 million gallons per day.

•The amount of sewer line has increased from 140 miles to 184 miles.

•The enrollment in Manteca Unified schools has jumped from 16,612 to 23,003 students.
