Manteca honors senior center volunteers

The 27th Annual Appreciation Dinner for senior center volunteers hosted by the Manteca City Council and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department was conducted last week at the Manteca Senior Center.

Recreation Supervisor Brandy Clark served as the master of ceremonies with assistance from staff coordinators Taylor Hasal and Chris Marlow.  More than 180 volunteers were lauded by council members and staff members.  A catered dinner was followed by a slide show and presentation of volunteer certificates along with special recognitions and a raffle.

The Senior Advisory Committee was on hand including Chairman Dave Byrd and Peggy Thompson-Spears, who serves as co-chair.  Addie Micheletti, secretary was joined by Don Reed, Carolyn Richardson, Robert Serpa and alternates Beverly Villines and Maxine Van Middendorp.

The senior citizen crowd found silly eye glasses on their tables and put them on their faces having fun with other volunteers, some taking pictures of their spirited friends.

The service areas at the Senior Center include AARP taxes, 3-D cards, Ad Hoc Committee, Advisory Committee, Angel Tree Project, Bingo, Bingo Bash, Bingo Fling, Birthday parties, book reviews, Bowl-A-Thon, Breakfast with Bunny, Breakfast with Santa, Bridge, Brown Bag Program, Bunko, City Tree Lighting, Counseling, Crafts, Crochet/Knitting, DJ Dance Party and Karaoke, Drope-in, Facility Supervisor, Fitness Room Trainer, Friday Night Bingo, Front Desk, Glitz & Glamour Faire, Greeters, Holiday Craft Faire, Indoor Flea Market, Karaoke, Life History/Genealogy, Newsletter, Nutrition, Pinochle, Pool Tournaments, Potluck, Quilters, Safety Committee, Senior Advisory Committee, Senior Breakfast, Silver Servers Tea Event, Spaghetti/Bingo Dinner, Special Events, Specialty Dances, Spring Cleaning,  Sunday Senior Dance, Sunshine Lady, Swedish Weaving, Teen/Senior Prom, Tex/Mex Dance, Thrift Store Fashion Show, Tree Lighting Ceremony, Trips & Tours, Veterans’ Appreciation, Whist, Widowers & Widows, Wii Bowling, Women’s Pool and Wood Carving.

Special recognition went to community businesses and beyond for their support from Black Oak Casino among a list of other casinos to the Modesto Nuts Baseball Team in Modesto, Spring Creek Country Club and In-N-Out Burger and Gallo Center for the Arts.
