The attempt at a squeeze play may end soon on westbound Lathrop Road at Madison Grove Drive.

Municipal staff is recommending tweaking lane configurations at the intersection accessing Del Webb at Woodbridge following three accidents within a month.

It involves eliminating the right turn only lane for westbound Lathrop and making it a thru lane that would merge into the left hand lane past the intersection. Staff indicated that because the road doesn’t narrow, motorists sometimes ignore the signs and markings indicating they have to turn right. A staff report noted the right lane going through the intersection is not something that motorists on Madison Grove Drive would anticipate.

The other modification is the trimming and/or removing of limbs on the lower part of trees in the median to the west of the intersection.

Traffic engineering staff is making the recommendations after reviewing accident reports over the past two years and conducting a field inspection.

The City Council is considering the staff recommendations when they meet tonight at 7 o’clock at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.
