Helping a high school senior go on to college after finding him sleeping under a bridge, Manteca Morning Rotarians are working to bring in more scholarship funds with their upcoming crab feed.

Rotarian Dennis King said the Morning Rotary Club has awarded more than $35,000 to date helping students to decide on a career with their scholarship monies.  King said there is hope the club can begin to make the scholarships renewable for students.

“A lot of what we do is to get them started,” noted Rotarian John Trueb.

One of the high school girls to receive a Rotary scholarship from East Union High is now working as an RN in the nursing field.  The Manteca Rotary effort has sent students to U.C. Davis, Stanislaus State, and Sacramento State.

The crab feed is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Manteca Senior Center at 5:30 p.m.  Dinner is planned at 6:30 with music and dancing at 8 p.m.

Cliff Jorgensen is running the no-host bar along with Robert of T&T Productions serving as the DJ.  There will be dance contests, raffle prizes and a scavenger hunt.

Tickets are available at Mt. Valley Express or the Manteca Chamber of Commerce Office.   Tickets may also be obtained by calling 456-0857.
