A 22-year-old Manteca man died in a solo motorcycle crash Monday afternoon on a southbound Highway 99 frontage road at Clark Road in Stockton.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer James Smith said the rider was estimated to have been going about 60 to 70 miles an hour shortly after 4:30 when he came upon slowing traffic, applied his brakes and swerved to the right hitting a raised concrete curb on the western edge of the roadway.

Smith reported that the impact resulted in the motorcycle going out of control and colliding with a metal fence post causing the rider’s fatal injuries.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

The motorcyclist’s name hasn’t been released pending notification of the next of kin.
