A Manteca motorist died in a two car crash shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday morning as he was making a left-hand turn from Airport Way onto Roth Road near Lathrop’s Sharpe Depot, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatality involved a 43-year-old Manteca man driving a 1992 Dodge Shadow, the CHP said. He had reportedly been stopped in the left turn lane awaiting a green light to make the westbound turn.

As the traffic signal switched to red for southbound traffic, Emmanuel Bojorques, 19, of Stockton allegedly accelerated his 1998 Mercury Marquis “to make it through the intersection,” the CHP report states.

The southbound vehicle struck the Dodge broadside causing the Manteca driver to be ejected onto the roadway and forcing his vehicle to roll over from the impact, officers said.

Bojorques continued on and into a dirt field where his vehicle came to a halt, according to the report. He was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Hospital in Manteca and treated for minor injuries.

Following medical treatment he was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail charged with felony gross vehicular manslaughter. He is also being charged with driving without a license, and reckless driving with injury. CHP investigators estimated his speed to have been in excess of 65 miles per hour.

No alcohol or drugs were found to have contributed to the fatality, officers said.

Bojorques is scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Bail has been set at $105,456.
