Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manteca / Lathrop in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies hosts a Crime Scene Investigation camp for interested youngsters.

The upcoming Manteca Police Junior CSI Academy is scheduled for mid June.

But signups are fast approaching.

Because space is limited to 25 per session, John Scharf of the local Boys & Girls Clubs will accept paperwork on a first-come, first-serve basis –cost is $30 for non-Boys & Girls Club members, $5 for members – from now through Tuesday, May 26, by the 3 p.m. deadline.

Scharf said the emphasis of the Jr. CSI cadets is the importance of “the importance of teamwork, respect, positive behavior, pride in one’s work, and resistance to drugs and alcohol.”

He added: “It’s our hope that each cadet will leave the program with a better understanding of crime scene investigation techniques, citizenship and the rewards of community involvement.”

Session One is scheduled from June 16 through 19 from 8 a.m. to noon and is available to incoming third- and fourth- grade students.

Session Two is open to fifth and sixth graders and will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on June 23 through 26.
