Want to provide Manteca Police with an anonymous tip?

Soon there will be an app for that.

Manteca Police Chief Nick Obligacion Monday said a Manteca Police Department app for smartphones and tablets should be available in four to five weeks.

“It basically provides access to much of the same information that is on our website,” the police chief said. “With more and more people using tablets and smartphones, it will make it easier to access information and (report concerns)...”

The app will allow access to the police department’s online reporting system for low-level crimes, the Manteca crime map that details where incidents have taken place, and information about the department.

It will be modeled after the Ripon Police Department app that debuted in September.

The smart device app will be available at the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play Store when it is released. The app will be free. It is being powered by Cloudspoace.Mobile.com.

At the same time the city’s website is going through an update to make it easier to use. The new city website complete with police department pages will roll out later this year.
