Jennifer Gowans will take her oath-of-office close to the high-noon hour as the new Manteca Postmaster on Friday, April 17, 12:30 p.m., at the Manteca Post Office, 165 North Maple Street.

Gowans, 46, began her career with the United States Postal Service 24 years ago as a letter carrier in Modesto in 1985. She quickly moved into management in 1987 as a Supervisor, Customer Service. Over the next 14 years, she gained higher management experience and landed her first Postmaster position in 2001 as the Oakdale Postmaster, the position she had before being selected as the Manteca Postmaster.

Gowans and husband Terry reside in Modesto, and have a daughter, Kelsey, 19, who is a sophomore at UC Davis. When not at work, Gowans enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, and her leisure time is no small affair, raising miniature donkeys and pygmy goats, along with an assortment of dogs, cats, and horses.

A community activist, Gowans is a member of the Oakdale Saddle Club and volunteers her time with the Oakdale Rodeo.

As Manteca Postmaster, Gowans oversees 77 employees, the delivery operations of 30 city routes and 15 rural routes, with a total of 28,151 delivery points, including 2,602 PO Boxes.
