Manteca new home builders started 22 homes in January.

It reflects the same start-of-the-year pace that Manteca experienced 2009 and 2010 when Manteca ended each year with more than 300 homes built to lead the Northern San Joaquin Valley in new housing starts.

The homes started last month averaged 2,626 square feet. It is just slightly higher than the average housing start in January 2010 of 2,513 square feet

The single family homes started in January 2010 had an average construction price of $146,680 compared to $148,700 today. Construction cost excludes land, city fees, as well as developer expenses and profits.

The biggest permit in terms of valuation was $2.1 million for a new arsenic removal plant the city is building for well water in the 400 block of Moffat Boulevard.
