Manteca taxi cab rides may soon cost more

Catching a Yellow Cab in Manteca could start costing a bit more.

The Stockton-based firm has a rate increase before the Manteca City Council during Tuesday’s 7 p.m. meeting at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.

The double digit rate increase would take a one-mile taxi ride up from the current $4.25 to 5. That rate would mirror Tracy and Lodi rates and eliminate Manteca’s status as the least expensive place to catch a cab in San Joaquin County. Cab rates for the first mile are $5.50 in Stockton and $6.25 in Modesto.

The rates in Manteca have not been adjusted since 1996.

A breakdown of the current charges is as follows: $2.25 for the meter drop, $2 per mile, 10 cents for 1/20th of a mile, and $22 per hour for wait time.

The proposed rates are $2.50 for the meter drop, $2.50 per mile, 12.5 cents per 1/20th of a mile, and $25 per hour for wait time.
