One Manteca 16-year-old girl was killed early Saturday morning on a Tracy freeway west of Tracy Boulevard while five other occupants of the vehicle received moderate injuries, according to the CHP.

The five other passengers included three girls and two boys said to be 16 and 17 years old, according to a CHP spokesman Sunday night.

The driver and the passengers are all believed to be East Union High students. Officers could not confirm names over the weekend.

Investigating officers said in their report that the driver of a 2000 BMW was fatally injured after her car drifted off Interstate 205 at about 5:20 a.m. as they were reportedly returning from San Francisco.  The others were transported to several area hospitals, according to the report.

The officer noted that the car went down the embankment of the eastbound freeway and crashed into a tree.  It was noted that a number of occupants were not belted in the vehicle.  It was suspected that the driver had fallen asleep.
