It’s the three words that, in all likelihood, no student wants to hear come this time of the year – Back to School.
Unfortunately, those days are fast approaching.
At Manteca Unified, students are scheduled to be back in the classroom on Monday, Aug. 7. But in order to ease in to the transition –  especially for ninth graders stepping on to their new campus – there is freshmen orientation.
Fortunately, Link Crew is available at most sites. This international high school transition program is designed to welcome these newcomers throughout that first year including one day set aside for introductions and icebreaking activities.
The fun starts on Aug. 2 for East Union High’s freshmen / new students, who will meet from 8-10 a.m. in the Dalben Center.
Manteca High’s Link Crew-sponsored event is also that day, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Guss Schmiedt Field. After that, the newcomers will make their way to Winters Gym for class schedules and books as part of Buffalo Round-Up Day.
Orientation Days at Sierra High is Aug. 2-3.
Lathrop High will welcome freshmen on Aug. 2 beginning at 7:30 a.m. inside the large gym. The school will also welcome Greg Leland as its new principal.
Weston Ranch High is having a Back to School Convention for ninth graders in the large gym on Thursday, Aug. 3, kicking off at 8 a.m.
At Ripon Unified, the first day of school is a week later on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
Before that is Ripon High’s annual Pow Wow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 2 (juniors / seniors) and Aug. 3 (freshmen / sophomores), with the Link Crew event taking place right before that first classroom day.
