First there were the Seniors Helping Area Residents and Police.

Then there was the Seniors Aiding Firefighting Effort.

And don’t forget the Citizens Emergency Response Team, Police Explorers, Fire Explorers, and the soon-to-be-rolled-out Volunteers in Police Service.

Now another acronym is joining the city’s repertoire of volunteer opportunities – CAMPRS.

It stands for Community Ambassadors for Manteca Parks and Recreation Services.

The City Council  is being asked to approve the CAMPS program during tonight’s 7 o’clock meeting at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.
The CAMPRS will:

•Organize and manage volunteers programs in an effective and efficient manner that will be responsive to both department staff and community needs.
•Promote family volunteer opportunities, consistent with Manteca as the “Family City” to encourage families and neighbors to come out in support of positive activities in their neighborhoods and community parks.
•Provide a grassroots, organized citizen group that will advocate on behalf of the park and recreation services.
•Encourage active community engagement in Parks and Recreation Services.
The volunteer opportunities will include ambassadors in the parks, assisting with special events, assisting parks and the creation staff with programs and services, organize and manage an “Adopt Your Neighborhood Park” programs.
•Organize meetings to promote Parks and Reecreation Services.
•Encourage community input and feedback.
