Last year, the Manteca Youth Advisory Commission kicked off “Battle of the Bands” with six musical groups vying for the title.
All were age 21 years and younger – as required under the general rules – and each band performed original music, no cover, during the set.
“For our first try I thought it went real good,” said YAC chairman Alex Orr. “But we looked at this (first try) as our standard in which to build on.”
He and his fellow youth advisory members are looking for more bands to participate in the “Battle of the Bands” for youth and teens on Saturday, March 2.
Brandy Clark, who is the recreation supervisor for the City of Manteca’s Parks and Recreation Department – part of her duties include overseeing the Youth Advisory Committee – confirmed Tuesday that six bands thanks to GK Music and other have already expressed an interest in taking part in the second-ever event.
“We need more,” she said. “We’d like to double that of last year.”
Prizes will go to the winners.
Battle of the Bands will again take place at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Cost is $5 presale (available at the Manteca Parks and Recreation, 252 Magnolia Ave.) and $8 at the door.
Food and drinks will be available.
