RIPON — Marissa’s Closet of prom and special event gowns is gearing up for an open house Saturday, August 27, along with a dress donation drive at its Ripon location at 410 West Main Street.

Melinda Shaw has continued the work of her late daughter Marissa to see that no girl is left out of her senior prom because she doesn’t have a gown to wear.  Thousands of gowns have gone through the closet – some being altered at no charge.

Dresses have come in from all directions – some still marked for sale – to fill the need that continues to exist.  Manteca Police school resource officers have also collected slightly used dresses at their respective high schools and sent them to Ripon.

Shaw is also in need of volunteers for the 2011-2012 season at her downtown Ripon formal dress shop.

Those donating dresses will also be placed into a cash drawing depending on how many dresses they donate.  The value ranges from $75 for one dress to $500 for 100 or more.

Shaw said she will also be having a vendor faire.  Those interested in signing up may contact her at (209) 613-0836.  The Saturday event  will include hot dogs, soda and water at no charge.
