Live and silent auctions were part of the well-attended roast for retiring Mayor Willie Weatherford Thursday night at the Manteca Senior Center netting some $13,000 for the building fund for a new VFW hall that will be built on Moffat Boulevard.

Vice Mayor Steve DeBrum served as the auctioneer while  VFW Commander Carlon Perry carried auction items throughout the crowd holding them high and urging those in attendance to bid on the variety of merchandise on the docket.

Perry appeared appreciative of the response from the crowd to the need for funds to serve the local veterans from all of the country’s foreign wars.
