Julie Walker was just about ready to delete her online profile at

It wasn’t that she was reeling them in by the boatful. While she had some success with the site in terms of meeting people, the Manteca High alumnus wasn’t all that thrilled with the options that were being presented to her.

If this is the best they have to offer, she thought, then why am I wasting my time?

But then she hooked the big one.

Unbeknownst to her she would end up hitting it off with a guy who had similar luck on the dating site and figured he’d give it one more chance. The two have been inseparable ever since.

“He’s just the most thoughtful and caring guy I think that I’ve ever met,” she said. “He’s so outgoing and it’s the little things – the nice things that he does like send me flowers when I’m at work that really help me realize that I picked the right guy.”

They’re getting married in September of 2014.

What’s even more pressing than the pending nuptials is the simple fact that neither Walker nor her fiancé – 39-year-old Brian Metzler – might end up having to spend a single dollar when the big day comes around. is currently in the process of running a promotion where people who met and got engaged on their site could win a $100,000 dream wedding – something that Walker jumped at the chance to sign up for as soon as she saw it.

She just recently found out, after filling out the necessary applications outlining how the two of them first met and what their early relationship was like, that they had cleared the first hurdle are moving on – one step closer to the dream wedding every bride fantasizes over.

The process gave her a chance to look back on the unique way in which they first got together, and how quickly they fell in love.

“He was supposed to be up in Oregon and for some reason his job at the time didn’t last as long as it should have so he needed a ride back from the airport,” she said. “I went to pick him up and that was the first time that we met.

“It was just – comfortable. He threw his bags in the back of my truck and it was like we had known each other forever. That was in July and we moved in together by September. It’s been wonderful.”

The happy couple now make their home in Elk Grove. They have two cats and a bulldog.
