A mini Portuguese festa is planned for Sunday in Manteca at the MRPS Hall, 133 N. Grant St.

The featured attraction will be the performance of the Luso-American Youth Council. The traditional dancers of North San Joaquin Valley – included are members from Modesto and Manteca – took second place at the 2009 Luso-American Fraternal Federal and S.P.R.I. event held Aug. 7-10 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose.

Founded by Portuguese immigrants in 1868, the fraternal benefit society was originally the Portuguese Protective and Benevolent Association.

The local event will include lunch at noon, with the public invited to attend this free event.

An auction along with a traditional dinner of sopas will be served at 6 p.m.
