It was a noon time event filled with food, games, prizes, and dancing.

This luncheon was a product of Sister Ann Venita Brito and her Ministry of Caring. On Friday, they accommodated consumers of Valley CAPS ABLE and PLUS for a special event held at the St. Anthony’s parish gymnasium.

According to Sister Ann, the luncheon was made possible thanks to the generosity of parishioners of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and added boost from Dan and Judy DeRuyter, Alice and Bill Corriea and Sheila Robello – they provided funding for the pizzas and raffle prizes.

Those in attendance engaged in a game of hot potato while dancing and singing to the “Grease” motion picture soundtrack.

Valley CAPS, meanwhile, provides over 500,000 hours of instructional care and services.

Included is ABLE – Adult Behavior Learning Environment – program, offering a 1-to-3 ratio or one instructor to every three consumers, with goal of teaching community based independent life skills, behavioral support and job skills training.

PLUS is an acronym for People Learning Under Support. This program offers one instructor working with eight consumers to help promote independent living and personal growth.

CAPS consumers look forward to events such as the luncheons hosted by Sister Ann and her Ministry of Caring.
