MODESTO — The Modesto Junior College Music Department Opera & Musical Theatre will present an evening of one acts: J. S. Bach’s Coffee Cantata, W. A. Mozart’s The Impresario and a medley from the Shaiman & Wittman musical, Hairspray. Performances are March 23-24 at 7:30 p.m., and March 25 at  3 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall (Music Building, room 208) on East Campus located at 435 College Ave.

Admission is $10 general, $8 for students and seniors, and will be available at the door 90 minutes before curtain in the Music Recital Hall or at the Auditorium Box Office Monday through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m.

The Bach and Mozart works both feature new, modern English translations. Bach’s Coffee Cantata tells the story of a father arguing with his daughter over her addiction to coffee, something that was a distressing problem in 18th century Leipzig, Germany, where the work was written. Mozart’s The Impresario tells of a company director, trying to put together a cohesive cast of members with which to produce plays. Inevitably, things go awry in finding the appropriate cast members. The Hairspray medley includes seven numbers from the hit Broadway show and subsequent film, including Good Morning Baltimore, I Know Where I’ve Been, and You Can’t Stop the Beat.
