A predawn brawl suspected to be gang related between eight to nine subjects in the 300 Block of Moffat Boulevard sent three people to area hospitals with stab wounds at 3:15 Tuesday morning.

The emergency 911 caller to the Manteca Police Department at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday said there was a machete being used against the victims, but when officers arrived at Inn at the Station motel no machete could be found.

Officers began checking the surrounding area on foot, finding no victims around, according to Sgt. Jody Estarziau.  Blood was found, however, throughout the west lot of the facility, she added.

Two victims were transported in private vehicles to Manteca’s Kaiser Hospital where they were treated for multiple stab wounds, police said.

The first of the two was transported to San Joaquin County Hospital to undergo surgery as was the second victim with life-threatening injuries where he reportedly also underwent surgery.  A third victim fled that hospital when he learned officers were responding even though he was bleeding from the arm.

Detectives and members of the Manteca Police Gang Suppression Unit responded to the scene of the fight and began their investigation.  There were no arrests as of press time.
