A 28-year-old Manteca man was reported in critical condition at the San Joaquin General Hospital’s trauma unit after suffering what Manteca Police described as major injuries from a head- on crash with a late model Chevy Malibu at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Sgt. Patrick Danipour said the crash occurred at the intersection of Powers Avenue and  East Alameda Street when the motorcycle was southbound on Powers as the Chevy was turning west onto Alameda.  His motorcycle continued for a short distance with the car after he was thrown into a front yard on Alameda, Danipour said.
The female motorist driving the Chevy went to seek medical help on her own, he added.
A Manteca Police major accident investigation team was on the scene until about 9 p.m. Tuesday, some four hours after the crash, searching for evidence and recording the positions of the two vehicles and noting their direction of travel.  Officers placed some two dozen yellow markers on the street surface and on the lawn where the cyclist was found after the crash.
Both the car and the motorcycle sustained major damage in the collision.  Sgt. Danipour said he was not ruling out the possibility that speed contributed to the crash. Powers Avenue was closed for two blocks during the investigation and traffic was detoured on to other streets.
