LATHROP – Investigation is continuing into the cause of the traffic collision that snarled traffic early Friday morning at Lathrop Road and McKinley Avenue.

The accident sent one man in critical condition to a local hospital with severe injuries. The male victim, who was not identified, was riding on the motorcycle which collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection.

The accident and ensuing investigation resulted in the Lathrop Road and McKinley Avenue intersection being closed to traffic with motorists taking alternate routes around the impacted area. The two major roads were closed to traffic for several hours to allow investigators to look into the cause of the accident.

The accident caused a major problem to motorists for two big reasons. The time of the accident coincided with one of the busiest times at this traffic corridor when people are rushing to work in the morning. Compounding that problem was the fact Lathrop Road is a major connector in this area between Interstate 5 to the west and Highway 99 to the east.

The site of the accident is just west of the Lathrop Road railroad overpass and right next to Natural Products.
