Joe Klocek had just spent two months as a comedian-in-residence making audiences in China laugh uncontrollably with his unique and engaging presentation and style.

And when he landed at the San Francisco International Airport at the beginning of the month, the first phone call that he got wasn’t from a lover or a family member, but a fellow comedian asking if he’d be willing to come back out to perform for a crowd that he’s rocked before.

He got a call from Chris Teicheira.

For the second time in as many years, Teicheira and his podcasting partner Anthony Krayenhagen (Anthony K) will be hosting the annual Pretending to Care Christmas Show at the MRPS Hall on Saturday, Dec. 27 starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on-site.

Klocek, who has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing as well as Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, will headline a show that will be featured by fellow Northern California comedian Mike Betancourt – who himself has built up an extensive resume though comedy club appearances that stretch from Santa Barbara all the way up to Northwest Oregon.

Both Teicheira and Krayenhagen will also be at the event, which will be the first public event held in the MRPS main ballroom since it reopened earlier this week after extensive renovations made the entrance, which hasn’t been touched for nearly half-a-century, wheelchair accessible.

Teicheira, who hosts a weekly podcast with Krayenhagen that has built an online cult following and pens a weekly Manteca-based column for The Bulletin, said on Thursday night that “Manteca to a T loves embellishing stories in the paper but I’d prefer to lie to you in person – see you on Saturday.”

He expects that roughly 200 people will show up for the event based on the lineup.

Klocek came and performed at a small event that PTC held in the back room at Isadore’s before it closed. An online clip of him calling up a heckler and giving him a microphone before spending the next five minutes skewering him in front of the entire crowd has been viewed on YouTube by almost a million people. The same video is actually hosted twice, and when combined the number of views actually comes closer to nearly 1.7 million.

The MRPS Hall is located at 133 N. Grant Avenue in Manteca.
