It’s that time of the year to make way for Dr. Seuss.
March 2 is the actual birthday of the beloved children’s author Theodor Geisel, who wrote such classics as ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ and ‘The Cat in the Hat.’
The Manteca Unified School District is honoring Dr. Seuss with Read Across America with some elementary sites such as Sequoia School getting a jump by celebrating the event last Friday. Included was a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast made possible by the Nutrition Services.
Most of the reading events will take place this week with Stella Brockman School, for example, celebrating Read Across America on Thursday, March 1.
Students there will also have their Green Eggs and Ham and eat it, too, with breakfast being served to kindergarten- through- second- graders from 9 to 10 a.m. in the school gym.
Neil Hafley, Nile Garden and Woodward schools will have their Read Across America on Thursday along with Veritas School, which will continue with the reading event the following day.
On Friday, August Knodt, Brock Elliott, George Komure, McParland (main campus and annex), Joshua Cowell, Lathrop, Lincoln, New Haven, and Joseph Widmer schools will enjoy the morning event on the actual Dr. Seuss birthday.
Meanwhile, Golden West School has scheduled Read Across the America on Tuesday, March 6, with breakfast followed by classroom activities during the day.
Great Valley School will honor Dr. Seuss on Friday, March 9.
