HAYWARD. (AP) — Bay Area Rapid Transit service from the East Bay into San Francisco has resumed after a death on the tracks led to a temporary shutdown.

BART officials announced just after 12:05 a.m. on Saturday that service had been restored.

It was disrupted the previous night after a westbound train struck and killed someone walking along the tracks outside the platform area at the West Oakland station at about 10:15pm. Passengers remained on the train for nearly two hours as BART police and fire crews removed the body from the tracks.

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost says the circumstances leading to the death are under investigation.
