POLICE: 4 WOUNDED IN BOURBON STREET SHOOTING: NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police have released a bystanders' video of what they say is an argument involving some people in a Bourbon Street throng raucously celebrating ahead of Mardi Gras when shots ring out, followed by screams.
Police spokesman Frank B. Robertson says the shooting in the crowded French Quarter just days before Fat Tuesday left four people wounded, including a male victim shot in the abdomen, thigh and pelvic area. He says one other male and two other females had lesser gunshot wounds.
The footage showed many partying in costumes before what police described as an argument between the most seriously injured male and two other men. Four rapid shots are heard, then screams.
Authorities have not said if they have made any arrests, saying they sought the public's help.
PINSTRIPE PEDIGREE: BRONX BOWSER JOINS WESTMINSTER: NEW YORK (AP) — Ladies and gentlemen, now warming up in the Westminster dogpen, the Bronx Bowser.
Meet sweet Mitch, a 5-year-old yellow Labrador retriever. He's a rookie at America's top dog show, yet he comes with a pinstripe pedigree — his co-owner is New York Yankees President Randy Levine.
"He's like Derek Jeter. Very calm," Levine said.
So on the week baseball spring training begins for pitchers and catchers, Levine will be among the pinschers and cockers. The Westminster Kennel Club show starts Monday, with Mitch set to walk the show ring on Tuesday morning.
"I don't think Randy would be half as excited if it was the World Series," fellow co-owner and breeder Tom Flaherty said.
Mitch is following a long trail of Yankees pawprints. Lou Gehrig, one of the original Bronx Bombers, brought his German shepherd to Madison Square Garden. Former ace Mike Mussina sent his Irish setter. Jacob Ruppert, the team owner who acquired Babe Ruth, showed St. Bernards.
The 137th Westminster features 2,721 entries in 187 breeds and varieties and includes a pair of newcomers, the treeing Walker coonhound and the Russell terrier.
Among the top contenders are a prime Doberman named Veni Vidi Vici that reached the best-of-seven final ring last year, a big-winning wire fox terrier, a German wirehaired pointer ranks as the nation's No. 1 show dog and a prized American foxhound.
FLACCO MAKES FASHION WEEK DEBUT AT TOMMY HILFIGER: NEW YORK (AP) — Joe Flacco is soaking up all the opportunities that come with being a Super Bowl champ, including nabbing a front row seat at New York Fashion Week.
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback and his wife, Dana Grady, had prime real-estate for Tommy Hilfiger's ever-preppy menswear collection Friday at the Park Avenue Armory.
"It was pretty cool. It was a lot quicker than I thought it would have been," said Flacco after watching his first fashion show.
As a brutal Nor'easter raged outside, the Hilfiger men on the runway bundled up in hefty coats with plush fur collars, cozy argyle sweaters and patterned turtlenecks.
If there's one takeaway from the fall collection: Houndstooth is a man's best friend.
It came down the runway in subtle waves — just peeking out from the lining of a coat or scarf — and in bold explosions, including a head-to-toe ensemble of houndstooth trousers and trench. Hilfiger also mixed and matched his pattern du jour with plaids and argyle.
Flacco, who led the Ravens in a 34-31 victory against the San Francisco 49ers at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, gave a nod of approval as a model passed by in a fitted navy blazer, layered under a dark, shearling car coat.
103 SAID KILLED IN SOUTH SUDAN CATTLE RAID CLASH: JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — More than 100 people were killed in a violence-prone region of South Sudan when one tribe attacked another while cattle were being moved across land, officials said Sunday.
Kuol Manyang Juuk, the governor of Jonglei state, said 103 people died in the Friday clash in Akobo County. Juuk said 17 of the attackers were killed and that 14 soldiers from South Sudan's military, the SPLA, who were accompanying the cattle-moving tribe also died.
Akobo County Commissioner Goi Joyul said the attack took place during a yearly migration in which members of the Lou Nuer ethnic group were driving cattle across the Sobat River. The commissioner said survivors of the attack saw the assailants use rocket-propelled grenades in addition to machetes and spears.
