HEARSE PARADE SET IN MICHIGAN COMMUNITY OF HELL: HELL, Mich. (AP) — A parade of hearses is planned this weekend in the Michigan community of Hell was part of an attempt to regain a spot in the record books.
The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports the "Hellfest Nightmare Cruise" is Saturday about 45 miles west of Detroit.
The 4:30 p.m. parade follows an all-hearse car show.
The Hell-based car club called Just Hearse 'N Around says it's trying to take back a Guinness World Records mark set last year when 51 vehicles made the parade. That got the event a Guinness World Records honor, but organizers say a hearse parade in the Netherlands has since brought out 107.
POLICE: WASH. MAN POINTED GUN AT PREGNANT SMOKER: BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state man has been arrested on allegations that he pointed a handgun at a pregnant woman because she was smoking a cigarette.
Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young says 24-year-old Justin Dain Palmer reportedly stopped his pickup truck Wednesday to shout at a smoker on a sidewalk, "Who the heck smokes when they're pregnant?" The woman replied, "I do."
Young says after more words were exchanged, the man pointed a handgun at the woman. The man then drove off, and the woman called 911.
Police stopped Palmer a short time later. Young says Palmer acknowledged confronting the woman but denied pulling a gun. Police say they found two semiautomatic .45-caliber handguns in his pickup's center console.
Young says Palmer was arrested for investigation of pointing a gun.
GREAT DANE FROM MICHIGAN IS WORLD'S TALLEST DOG: OTSEGO, Mich. (AP) — A Great Dane from Michigan is doggone tall.
The Guinness World Records 2013 book published Thursday recognizes Zeus of Otsego, Mich., as the world's Tallest Dog.
The 3-year-old measures 44 inches from foot to shoulder.
Standing on his hind legs, Zeus stretches to 7-foot-4 and towers over his owner, Denise Doorlag. Zeus is just an inch taller than the previous record-holder, Giant George.
Zeus weighs 155 pounds and eats a 30-pound bag of food every two weeks.
Doorlag says she had to get a van to be able to transport Zeus.
STOWAWAY CAT SURVIVES PLANE RIDE IN SUITCASE: ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — When an Ohio woman packed her bags for a Disney vacation, her cat didn't want to stay behind.
Sometime Monday, Bob-bob the cat found his way into Ethel Maze's suitcase, made it through screening at Port Columbus International Airport and was loaded into an airplane for a flight to Orlando.
The black cat popped out when Maze unzipped her bag after checking into her hotel Monday night. Maze, of Circleville, Ohio, says the 14-month-old cat was shaken but still purring.
Maze was part of a group of disabled veterans and volunteers making an annual trip to Orlando.
Mike Groleau, who handled the bags for the group, says he thought he saw the bag move, but loaded it along with the other bags heading to Orlando.
CANDIDATE USES PORN CLIPS TO SEX UP BOSNIA RACE: ZENICA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) — A mayoral candidate in Bosnia's fourth-largest city is using one of the Internet's greatest lures — pornography — to draw attention to his campaign.
Mirad Hadziahmetovic is an independent candidate with a relatively slim chance of winning the October election in Zenica.
He said Thursday that he decided to upload pornographic video clips to his official campaign site after realizing that large numbers of people use the Web to peruse sexual content.
To view the material on his site, visitors must answer questions, such as "What is more important for Zenica, job creation or increasing the municipal budget" through taxes?
At the end of each clip there is a separately recorded video of Hadziahmetovic talking directly to camera and saying: "If you liked this clip, vote for me."
