More housing options, a safe community, and attracting head-of-household jobs serve as the cornerstone of Jose Nuno’s campaign for the Manteca City Council.
The current Manteca  Planning Commission member kicked off his campaign at the American Legion hall in downtown with over 60 in attendance. Featured speakers included State Assemblywoman Susan Eggman, Mayor Steve DeBrum, Councilman Mike Morowit, former Mayor Jack Snyder and Senior Advocate Joanne Jamerson. Councilmember Gary Singh served as the master of ceremonies and former police chief Nick
In his comments to the standing room only crowd, Nuno emphasized the importance of creating housing opportunities for people of all income levels.
“Manteca is a growing and thriving community and the city needs to encourage housing stock for all of its residents,” he said. “We need to create a variety of housing options so that young people, families and our seniors can afford to live in our wonderful city. Jose also recognized key concerns shared by residents. Manteca leaders need to keep our community safe and attract family wage jobs to the community so our residents don’t have to commute to the Bay Area to make ends meet.”
There are two seats up for election Nov. 8. Incumbent Mike Morowit is seeking re-election while Richard Silverman has opted not to seek a second term. Also running are Dave Breitenbucher, Chris Silva, and Steve Williams. So far the mayor’s race includes incumbent Steve DeBrum and Ben Cantu.
