Janis Music summer concert set for Aug. 30
Tickets are on sale for the 2009 Summer Concert that will take place at the Center Plaza in Modesto on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m.

Gordon Kennedy of the Manteca-based Janis Studios will present the largest concert yet with 10 bands playing.

Each band has their own style of music from acoustic rock to heavy metal. The bands are made up of 95 performers ranging in age from 8 to 18. All performers have auditioned or been recommended to the program and have been choosing because of their talent and dedication to music.

These musicians have worked very hard all summer to bring this show together. Bands are TK and J’s, Desperado, Estrofest, Tundra, Bang, A.OK, Stay the Storm, Neighborhood Battleground, Neon Ink, The Light Grenades, Revival, Awkward Silence, Again we rise, static 6 Braata, Facade and Zephyr, Special guest bands are Finish Ticket and Three Men and a Baby.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 at Manteca Visitors Center located inside the Strikezone Manteca, Modesto Convention & Visitors Bureau located at 1150 9th Street, Suite C, Modesto or at Janis Studio 138 W. DeMolay breakfast set for Sunday
Manteca DeMolay is hosting an omelet/biscuits and gravy benefit fundraiser this Sunday from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at the Masonic Temple, 212 N. Powers Avenue in Manteca.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Manteca Masonic Tyrian Lodge  No. 439. A 3-egg omelet with choice of fillings, biscuits and country gravy, fruit and a beverage will be provided for a donation of $7, adult or $3.50, child (10 and under.) Take out is available. Cub Scout car wash set for this Sunday
Cub Scouts Pack 423 is hosting a car wash on Sunday, Aug. 23.

The fundraiser will be held at Golden West School, 1031 N. Main St., from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the local scouts and their upcoming endeavors. Donations will be accepted.

Ripon Senior potluck Monday
It is time for the senior potluck. It will be held Monday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Ripon Senior Center at the corner of 4th and Wilma.

Please bring your own table service and a good size portion of salad, main dish or dessert.

The program will start at 7 p.m. The Collaboration, a male quartet will sing. You will want to hear them and enjoy each other’s friendship.

Place of Refuge flea market & fair
The Place of Refuge Church will be hosting their first annual parking lot flea market and fair.

There will be individual garage sales, rummage sales, expos, and food vendors, and retail vendors.

The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 29. Gates will open at 7 a.m. and stay open until 4 p.m.

Vendor spaces are available at $25 for a 20x20 parking space.
