Manteca community Christmas concert starts tonight at 7
The Manteca Community Choir is staging a Christmas concert at the Manteca Presbyterian Church at North and Main.  

The  “Christmas Fantasia” will be performed tonight at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.  Contact Anne Talcott at 823-0054 for more information.

Holiday story time at library Dec. 16
The Manteca Branch Library will present a Holiday Book Bonanza on Wednesday, Dec.  16, at 4 p.m. The library’s story time lady  will read stories plus there will be games and crafts for everyone to enjoy.  Come have a wonderful time for families with children of all ages to celebrate literacy.

Carols & Kisses through Dec. 19
East Union High School Choir members are available to carol to your friends, family members and party gatherings.  Their annual Carols and Kisses fund raiser will be available through December 19.  

Prices start at $10 for two or three Christmas carols and a bag of Hershey Kisses.

Free surplus food distribution Thursday
Low-income residents of San Joaquin County will be able to obtain free government surplus food on Thursday, Dec. 17, at locations throughout San Joaquin County. Distribution will continue until supplies are exhausted.

The food products will be given to those who self-certify that they are residents of San Joaquin County and whose household income are within the program guidelines. Total monthly income cannot exceed $1,354 for one person; $1,821 for two; $2,289 for three; $2,756 for four; $3,224 for five; and $3,691 for a household of six persons. They need to bring proof of their address and zip code and a paper bag.

County Locations:

• Lathrop, Lathrop Senior Center, 15557 E 5th St., 8 to 11 a.m.

• Manteca, Manteca Library, 320 W. Center, 7 to 9 a.m.

• Escalon, CARE Center, 8 to 10 a.m.

• Ripon, Ripon Community Center, 312 W. 4th St., 7 to 9 a.m.

Participants must bring a grocery bag to help with the distribution. For more information, telephone the San Joaquin County, Commodity Program 468-3679.

Joint Manteca High, Shasta band concerts
The Manteca High School Band & Shasta Bands (7-8 Band, 6th Grade Band, and Beginning Band) and Choirs (4-6) Winter Concert will be Monday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Manteca High School Theater.  

Their director is Anthony Dahl.  It will feature guest soloist Melissa Manalastas, flute and the Central Valley premiere of Roadtrip Sunrise, and new composition for band by Phoenix area composer Andrew Ardizzoia.  The MHS Band will be only the third band in the world to perform this piece!  There will also be works by Stravinsky, Robert W. Smith, and Bruce Pearson, as well as some festive holiday tunes. Admission is free.

Golden West band, choir concert Tuesday
The elementary choirs from Golden West, Mossdale and Veritas Schools will be presenting “A Holiday to Remember” on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Golden West Community Gym directed by Mrs. Cindy Karim.  The Golden West band will be performing also under the direction of Wendell Dotson.

Stella Brockman holiday concert
Stella Brockman’s holiday concert will be on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Stella Brockman gym.  It will include holiday selections played by the intermediate and advanced bands and 4-8 grade choirs.  The groups are directed by Terri Richichi and Betty James.
