Richard Coehlo, 40, of Manteca was arrested at about 8 p.m. Tuesday and charged with battery on a police officer in the 300 block of South Sequoia Avenue after being tased twice in front of a home.
Officers were answering a call that someone had thrown rocks through the front windows of a home. One officer was inside the home taking a report from the resident who lived there when a man with a beer and chips in hand attempted to force the door open.
The officer stopped the man from entering after he attempted to pull the door away from the officer. The suspect then allegedly took a swing at the patrolman.  The fight went out onto the sidewalk in front of the home where the officer used his taser to stop the man from attacking him taking him to the ground.
When the officer released the taser charge Coehlo reportedly ran into the intersection with the barb hooks from the taser lodged in his back.  The officer pulled the trigger on the taser a second time and the man went down again and gave up, police said.
Coelho was treated by firefighters who removed the hooks from his back and monitored his heart rate and blood pressure.  He was taken out into the middle of the street with lights in his face so witnesses could identify him without being seen themselves.
Neighbors across the street said they had witnessed him apparently stalking the woman over the past few weeks and were concerned for her safety.  
He was transported to San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp and charged with battery on a police officer.
