Sierra High’s Advanced Theater has two more showings of the musical comedy “Damn Yankees.
The modern retelling of the Faust legend opened Friday at Sierra is under the leadership of drama teacher Dianna Puett.
The cast, headed by Sam Hoffman as Old Joe, Deric Duran as Young Joe, Andrea Zarevich as Meg, Natasha Wilson as Lola, and Hannah Goe as Gloria, is on stage again at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16; and Friday, April 17, in Sierra High’s theatre.
Tickets cost $5 if purchased in advance from Puett or of $9 at the door.
The musical comedy is based on Douglas Wallop’s novel, “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant.” Music and lyrics are by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The modern version of the story is set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., a time when the New York Yankees dominated the Major League Baseball.
Puett’s drama class last year staged another long-running Broadway musical, “Footloose,” a Broadway musical that was also made into a movie in 1984 which starred Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. The Broadway “Footloose,” which was adapted from the movie directed by Herbert Ross, ran 709 performances which became a stage staple from 1998 to 2000.
