STOCKTON — Reservations are being accepted for the Stockton Opera Guild’s first event of the 2011-2012 season. “The Curtain Goes Up” is Wednesday, Nov. 2, 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.

This year’s honoree is Gerry Ascencio, a music lover since a grade school music class and an opera aficionado nearly as long. Currently serving on the Stockton Opera Association board for 20 plus years. Gerry also helps with operational tasks of producing the opera. Gerry was a member of the Stockton Chorale for over 40 years and sang in multiple opera productions with them.

Music, of course, will be part of the festivities. Maestro Peter Jaffe, Soprano Jessica Siena and Tenor Daniel Ebbers will entertain with a lively preview of the characters, plot and music of the 2012 opera production of Pagliacci and Gianni Schicchi.

Guests will also enjoy fine wines and a dinner buffet. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. with Master of Ceremonies Sue Sherrow. This event benefits the Stockton Opera Guild-Kathe Underwood Scholarship fund, which has been supporting aspiring young singers for 12 years.

The cost is $45 per person. Make reservations by Oct. 28. The Country Club does not allow denim.
