Stop by the Manteca Quilters’ 33rd Annual Quilt & Cloth Doll Show and you could go home with a “Courtyard Garden.”
That’s the name of the quilt that will be given away to the winning ticket in the opportunity drawing to be held on the final day of the weekend event set for Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, at the MRPS Hall in downtown Manteca.
The featured artist at this year’s show is Jan Ayers who quilted the “Courtyard Garden,” with the machine-quilting work on the piece done by Pegi Treat. Both are members of the Manteca Quilters Guild.
Ayers said her quilt is from an original design by nationally known artist Mary Beth Hartnett.
“I saw the picture in a magazine and I just really, really liked it,” said Ayers of the design that she picked for her project.
The publication she referred to was the American Patchwork & Quilt Magazine’s February 2010 issue.
Ayers has only been a member of the Manteca Quilters for 11 years but, she said, “I’ve sewn all my life.” And, although she just started quilting in 2000, she has made some quilted projects before.
The other give-away at the two-day quilt show will be the opportunity cloth doll by artist Susie Crawford.
Tickets for the opportunity drawing for at dollar apiece will be on sale both days of the show.
Other highlights both days will include quilting demonstrations, wearable arts displays, vendors selling quilting textiles and books, a cloth-doll show, a boutique where visitors can purchase a wide variety of one-of-a-kind quilted items from purses and handbags to aprons and placemats. There will be a food court as well where visitors can sit down and have lunch. Main Street Café is providing the food for the second year in a row.
Chairing this year’s Quilt & Cloth Doll Show is former guild president Janet Dyk.
Admission to the show is $7 per person; admission is free to children age 12 and younger. Strollers will be allowed inside on Sunday only.
The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 3; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 4.
MRPS Hall is located at 133 N. Grant Street just north of Yosemite Avenue in Manteca. For additional information, call (209) 825-4832.
