Bass Pro Shops free Kids’ Outdoor Skills Challenge offers fun outdoor activities for kids such as the opportunity to learn skills such as knot tying, rod casting and archery this Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day event features free seminars, prizes and crafts at the Manteca Bass Pro Shops.

Studies show that children who spend time outdoors participating in fun learning activities for kids perform better in the classroom and develop an appreciation for conservation. The Outdoor Skills Challenge event offers kids the chance to improve casting techniques and accuracy by testing their skills using bass shaped casting buckets. They may also practice archery using soft foam bow and arrow combos; learn how to tie a proper knot; and go on a fun scavenger hunt to find conservation or wildlife items. The first 50 kids to complete the scavenger hunt will have the opportunity to spin a prize wheel. For each activity completed, kids can take a card to an associate to get it punched. Once the punch card is full, kids can turn it in to receive a free fishing tackle box.

Kids can learn about fish and their habitats during the free “Think like a Fish” seminar at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. In addition, crafts are offered from noon to 5 p.m. each day while supplies last.
