MODESTO — Marcelo Molina and Carolina Vazquez, 2011and 2013 Argentine Tango USA Stage Champions, will return to Modesto on Saturday, March 1, for two workshops and to perform at a milonga (tango party).

The party, at Jacobs Fine Dining, 2501 McHenry Ave., Modesto, will begin at 8:30 p.m. with the public invited to dance or just watch. The guests will teach an introductory tango lesson at 7:30 p.m. A $10 entry fee covers the lesson, a 10:15 p.m. performance, dancing and/or just watching. 

Food and drink will be available from the menu until the performance ends.

Molina, from Cordoba, Argentina, is a performer, choreographer and instructor with 15-plus years of experience. Based in Fresno since 2011, he began dance studies in 1997 with the “Sangre Latina” company. He danced in the “Tango in Broadway” show with Ruben Juarez, one of the decade’s major tango singers.

In 2008 he won the Argentine Tango Córdoba City Championship, a branch of the World Cup Tango Championship held in Buenos Aires every August. Since then, he toured the USA giving classes and exhibitions. He won the Argentine Tango Championship 2013 Stage Category, at the USA branch of the Tango World Cup as well as the Championship in 2011, the first time the Championship festival was held in the U.S at San Francisco, with partner Carolina Vázquez. 

Their first workshop at 2 p.m., for all levels and recommended for beginners, will focus on basics, the walk, and dancing in crowded spaces. The second, at 3:30, will stress figures common to tango dancers.
