Petco plans Manteca location

Manteca is getting a third store devoted exclusively to pets.
Petco plans to open in the Stadium Retail Center.
The Manteca Planning Commission on Tuesday will review plans for a new 12,480-square-foot to house the national retailer. The commission meets at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.
It will back up to the westbound onramp to the 120 Bypass from Airport Way.
Manteca has a PetSmart store in Spreckels Park while the longtime family-owned Carter’s Pet Mart out of Stockton opened a second location in Manteca earlier this year at North Main Street and Alameda Street.
A fourth store — Old McGowan’s Feed on Lathrop Road west of Main Street — devotes a large chunk of its business to pet food, equipment and supplies but also carries livestock feed and supplies as well as other items.
PetSmart has the bigger footprint in the area with two stores in Modesto as well as one each in Tracy and Stockton.
There are Petco stores in Stockton and Modesto. A Tracy location closed down several years ago.
Manteca, due to its continued growth adding well over 1,100 new residents a year and improving economic demographics is expected to keep snaring more brick and mortar stores even as online sales are transforming retail dynamics.
Petco will be on the same side of the Stadium Retail Center where dd Discounts is celebrating its grand opening today in space once occupied by Office Depot.
Stadium Retail — and the general area around Airport Way and the 120 Bypass — has seen four new commercial buildings completed and opened during the last 13 months with a combined value of $2.5 million. That includes Ulta Beauty, Manteca’s third Taco Bell, the Sizzler restaurant, and the city’s second Prime Shine Car Wash.
Work is expected to start on a combination gas station, car wash, and convenience store along Daniels Street east of Airport Way in the coming months.
