LATHROP – For 25 years, Pets & Pals has treated animals in need of homes with care and respect.

The no-kill shelter at 12488 S. Harlan Road is well managed and kept clean. It’s a happy place for cats and dogs.

Dogs, for example, are allowed to get out of their cages on a regular basis and run along the enclosed spacious outdoor area equipped with swimming pools.

“We have found homes for thousands of animals over the years,” director Sue Molen said.

She’s inviting the public to attend the 25-years-of-service celebration on Saturday.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Pets & Pals will have a variety of activities, with those attending this free event also having a chance to take a tour of the facilities.

“This is one place where you can take the kids and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg,” said Molen.

Youngsters can have their face painted and enjoy balloon art and carnival games with prizes.

Families can enjoy partaking in the free hot dogs, sodas, pop corn, cotton candy and other goodies.

The featured event will be the stunt dog show of Chris Perondi and his Extreme Canines. Sparkles the Clown will also be on hand, entertaining children of all ages from noon to 3 p.m.

In addition, Pets & Pals will have a drawing for prizes.

The Lathrop animal shelter operates strictly on private donations.
