MODESTO — The Modesto Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will present its 17th annual outdoor concert, Picnic at the Pops! on Saturday, Sept. 10, on the grounds of the E&J Gallo Winery in Modesto.
Principal Pops conductor Steven Reineke will lead the Modesto Symphony Orchestra in a concert featuring the music from the 1970s in “Disco Days and Boogie Nights” including music from ABBA, Queen, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor and Don McLean’s American Pie. Guest vocalists include pop & opera star N’Kenge, Broadway Star Farah Alvin, Broadway Star Anne Beck and the a-cappella ensemble Chapter Six.
The winery grounds open at 4 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. concluding with a spectacular fireworks finale. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the music in the outdoor park setting of the winery grounds. Wine, soda, coffee and water are available for purchase at the concert with all proceeds benefitting the Modesto Symphony. Catered boxed meals may be pre-ordered and pre-paid from five authorized caterers: O’Brien’s Market, Hilmar Cheese, Green’s Market, Tressetti’s or Galletto Ristorante. Information on how to order meals is included with tickets and is also available at www.modestosymphony.org. The pre-ordered meals will be available for pick-up at the concert between 4 and 7 p.m.
A community favorite, Picnic at the Pops! attracts a large crowd of 4,000 guests and all are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. Tickets are $12 to $55 and are available at the Gallo Center for the Arts Ticket Office, Nu-Way Cleaners (Bowen at College), O’Brien’s Market (all 3 locations), Salon Salon in McHenry Village and the Hilmar Cheese Visitors Center. Group rates are also available.
