Two Turlock individuals trying to buy a Play Station 4 advertised on Facebook were robbed at gunpoint in Manteca’s Hampton Inn parking lot.

Manteca Police ended up arresting Felix Covarrubias and Alexandro Angula Serrano, both 18, on suspicion for the theft of two cell phones and the cash taken at gunpoint from the driver planning to purchase a Play Station 4.  A similar robbery took place in Lodi, officers learned after checking with surrounding police agencies.

The Manteca robbery took place at about 2 p.m. Thursday at the Manteca hotel near Bass Pro Sports when the owner of the Play Station arrived at the Hampton Inn parking lot to buy the electronic game that he had seen advertised on Facebook.

The Turlock man and his brother soon met with the suspects. The passenger in the vehicle got out of the car, police said, and approached their vehicle asking to see the money. Then the driver of the suspect vehicle got out of his car holding a rifle demanding the money that was going to be used in the purchase.

The victim gave the suspects the cash he had with him. The suspects then took the pair’s cell phones before getting back into their vehicle and fleeing.

The victims drove home to Turlock before calling police who notified Manteca Police at 3:38 p.m.

Charges include first degree robbery, using firearm in commission of a felony receiving stolen property and similar charges still active from their past.

Lodi Police are in the process of requesting a search warrant that will allow them to further go through the suspect vehicle as they continue their investigation.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court today, at 1:30 p.m.
