The perennially popular Holiday Luncheon and Craft Faire sponsored by St. Anthony of Padua School in Manteca is back to its old slot this Wednesday.
After holding it on a Saturday last year, “we moved it back to Wednesday by popular demand,” said Jennifer Carranza who is co-chairing the event this year with DeAnna Nunes.
“Back when we had it on Wednesdays, many businesses would buy tickets for their employees like doctors’ offices. When it was on a Saturday, we weren’t getting all of the community coming,” Carranza said.
“It will stay on Wednesday now; it just worked out being better,” she said.
Tickets for the combination luncheon and craft faire are $10 each for adults and $8 each for seniors. That will include free admission to the craft faire plus the buffet luncheon which will consist of ravioli, minestrone, meats and cheeses, salad, dessert, wine, lemonade and coffee. As part of this holiday luncheon tradition, father and son Tony and Mario Queirolo will again prepare the ravioli and sauce using the recipe that has been handed down through generations in their family.
Visitors will decide whether they want to sit down for lunch and then browse through the two-dozen booths of handmade items, or vice versa.
Featured will be homemade jewelry, woodwork, ceramics, baked goods, greeneries, Christmas ornaments and decorations – all handmade arts and crafts, Carranza said.
“The majority of our vendors are returning vendors. We have people that have been doing it for 40 years, and they keep coming back. This is our 44th year for the luncheon,” she said.
“You can get unique items for Christmas because they are all hand-crafted that you can’t buy at the store,” she added.
During the luncheon, which will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school gym, there will a raffle where lucky visitors will have a chance to win big-ticket items. The grand prize is a two-carat diamond necklace from New York Diamonds in Manteca. Second prize is teeth whitening donated by Manteca dentist Pamela Andrews, and third prize is a quilt made by Annie Borrelli, the grandmother of students attending St. Anthony School.
The holiday luncheon and craft faire is not the only fund-raiser for the school held at various times during the year. Mark your calendars for the following fund-raisers for the school: a crab feed in January, and an all-you-can-eat rib dinner in May.
Tickets for the holiday luncheon will be available the day of the event in the school office next to the gym. For further details, call the school at 823-4513.
