The Manteca Mural Society will be hosting a meeting featuring the final entries for the World War II Veterans Mural for downtown on Wednesday, June 11, at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 220 E. Yosemite Ave.
The finalists are designs by Dave Gordon of Sebastopol, Don Gray of Vancouver, Washington and Colleen Venya of Visalia. The ideas behind each design and a mockup of the proposed murals will be presented. The public is encouraged to attend.
Following the presentations, the Mural Society will meet at a later date to select the finalist. Once this selection is made, the muralist meets with the Mural Society and representatives from the veterans groups to create the final design. This process can take up to 60 days.
The mural honoring World War II veterans is next in the series of five murals that ultimately will grace the wall of the Manteca Bedquarters facing Main Street in downtown Manteca.
The society is in the process of raising the $25,000 it will take to complete the mural.
Donations for the World War II mural may be dropped off at Raymus Homes: The Next Generation, 250 Cherry Lane, Suite 116, Manteca, CA 95336 or mailed to P.O. Box 2188, Manteca, CA 95336.
