RIPON — All riders are welcome to participate in the inaugural “Ride for the Music” bicycle run from under the arches on Stockton Avenue in downtown Ripon on Saturday that is expected to draw some 100 riders.

Registration on the day of the ride takes place near George’s Bike Shop.

There are three divisions in the ride that starts at 8 a.m. with a 62 mile event, followed at 8:30 with the start of a 31 mile ride and at 9 a.m. off on a 15 mile course that covers flat, paved streets and country roads.

The sponsoring “Music First” effort is garnering support for music throughout the region for children, seniors and the mentally handicapped with registration fees ranging from $20 to $25.  The entry fees directly support artist fees, purchasing of music, printing programs and transportation.

Music First is a coalition of business leaders, parents, educators, clergy, health care professionals and musicians who are laboring to bring classical and jazz music to those who would otherwise not be exposed to the joy of hearing the many renditions.

Refreshments are being offered midway through the rides and at the start and finish.

Checks may be made payable to Music First. For more information go to www.MusicFirstUSA.info.
